The most recent meeting of the Archaeology Group was held at the Heritage Centre on Saturday, 14th September, when Alex Whitlock talked members through our recent excavation at Higher White Lee. It was really interesting being able to handle and sort the finds, particularly the pottery, some of which dates to 16c. The photographs show the progression of the excavation and part of the story of the site’s history.
The next phase of excavations at White Lee commences tomorrow, Sunday 15 September, for one week, when we hope to discover evidence of medieval activity there. Digging commences at 10.00 each morning and all are welcome to take part in any aspect of the dig. Email Georgina for details.
